Reflection on 2nd Helper Project

As everyone knows, Valentines Day is coming up and don’t we all “love” it. This past week, Jenny has been preparing a Valentines Day party, and everyone is welcomed. I helped Molly create a large sign stating the date of the event, what time it will be held at and end at, when tickets will be sold, and for how much. We made it very eye catching so anyone can see it from down the hall.

Project Pansy Reflection

Project Pansy was not at all what we had hoped it to be. We were envisioning Fernys Nursery would give us the donation we had asked for, or at least part of it. We had visited the nursery to see what we might be able to get as a donation and we found pansies and mums were our best bet. We asked them, in an email from our advisor on the project, to donate to us some pansies and mums but they never got back to us. We then took a print out of the email we had originally sent to the nursery and presented it to them. They said they would get back to us, but never did. That was one aspect of our project that we had no control over. The only thing we could possibly do different next time would be to go back to the nursery and ask them where they were at in the process of donating to our school. That might help to ensure that we would get the donation we had asked for, or even get a response telling us that they were not going to donate to us. When we had originally planned this project we could see this potential project, but did plan for it actually happening. Nothing of our project went according to how we had planned it.
This experience could make us better leaders because we learned that you cannot always rely on others to do their part so we can in turn do ours. We should have come up with some other idea to get the flowers we were wanting. I believe Cole and I worked very well together, but ran into problems that were out of our hands.
For our next project, we plan to have a Classroom Clean Up afternoon. We plan to have people signup and clean teacher’s classrooms. We will have more information in the future.

S.O.S. (Scrub Our School!!!) Milestone Dates

Co-Leaders:  Griselda and Cole
S.O.S. is a go!!! We plan to have this volunteer date set on January 13, 2011. Teachers we have signed up for this project are Mr. W, Mrs. W, Mrs. J, Mr. S and Ms. D. They each want something different done in their classrooms ranging from cleaning to reorganizing the room. By having teachers already signed up we have one milestone down, but there are a few more to go. We still need volunteers to sign up to clean these classrooms, and we still need to find out where we are going to get the cleaning supplies. We plan to start and finish this project on January 13, 2011. A signup sheet will be open to all that would be free that Thursday, for an hour after school. You will be able to receive community service hours for this if you sign up. To those who were asked to stay for information night, you would be able to get an extra hour of community service if you participated in this volunteer work. You’ll be there anyways so why not get credit for it. Signups will be available all week.

S.O.S. (Scrub Our School) Reflection

The S.O.S project went just fine, but not as well as we had hoped. There were not as many teachers who signed up as we would have hoped and likewise with the amount of volunteers. But it went well anyhow. We had Mrs. J sign up to have her computers and desks cleaned, Mr. W, Mrs. W, and Ms. D, all signed up to have their desks cleaned and Mr. S signed up to have his room rearranged. Overall, with the small amount of people that signed up for our classroom clean up, we had a good turn out and all the teachers were satisfied with the help they received. What was best about the timing of our project was the fact that it fell on an information night. Desks were cleaned and rooms rearranged just in time for new potential students to see and be impressed by. If we were to do this project again we would plan dates more in advance then we did this time around and maybe we would get more volunteers and teachers to sign up.
This experience could potentially make us better “planners.” We did not plan out the details of this project very well and that why we had very little people sign up for it. Next time, if we put out signup sheets a week or two before the actual date, and not four days before, we would probably have a better turn out.

Proposal for S.O.S (Scrub Our School!!!)

Executive Summary:

We all love our school, and to show just that we should all help to clean it. Even though there are trash cans in every hallway and just about every classroom, people still choose to through their trash where they please. Also, since teachers have multiple classes the desks are shared between at least 6 people. After a week, those desks get really dirty. I think it would be a good idea if we could get some people to sign up and stay after school to clean the classrooms and pick up trash that might be floating around the court yards.

Need

This project would only take about an hour to do so if we had enough people sign up.  This clean up will be planned on Thursday, the 13th of January. We would need cleaning supplies, such as 409 cleaner, paper towels and trash bags. This project could really benefit our school, the kids that attend it and the staff that works it. Parts of the school that is more commonly touched will be clean which could result in less people getting sick.

Objective:

What we plan to do is clean desks, pick up trash floating around the school and to take out teachers garbage’s that are full. A list of teachers will be available at a later date. This project will be planned on Thursday, the 13th of January and is opened to any volunteers. We plan for this to go on just an hour after school.

Method:

There will be a list on which volunteers can sign up. If we get enough people to sign up then it should take that much time after school; only about an hour. Many teachers would appreciate this because if we don’t do it then they will probably have to do it themselves. They really don’t have that kind of time on their hands. Also, we not only would be benefiting the teachers, but everyone else. By cleaning we cut down on the spread of germs and sicknesses, causing less people to be out sick. The only foreseen problem is that not enough people will volunteer and the project will take longer than expected.

Evaluation:

We will know our project has succeeded when we have clean desks, court yards and happy teachers. Later, when the project is over, we plan to go around to all the teachers and ask for their feedback on the results. From that we could make improvements for next time.

Qualifications:

We will be working in the classroom of the teacher that wants their room to be cleaned. Cleaning supplies will be supplied as well as garbage bags. Anyone is welcomed and encouraged to help out on this cleaning projected.

Timetable:

This project should take about an hour after school and will only be held for one day. Cleaning, taking out trash and whatever the teacher may ask the volunteer to do for them will be the only things that will be done. We hope to have people sign up for this project starting tomorrow until the following Wednesday. The actual project will be held Thursday, the 13th of January.

Budget:

This project should be relatively coast free, apart from the cleaning agents used and the paper towels. Time is the only thing we are asking the volunteer to give up.

Conclusion:

We believe this project to be worthwhile because we are not only benefiting the staff of Aviation High, but also its student body. By clean surfaces that most of us touch on a regular basis we are prevent the spread of germs and sickness. Again, anyone and everyone is welcomed and encouraged to sign up.

SaveOurSchool!!

An idea Cole and I had to help improve our school is to clean it. We were planning on having the Friday after we get back from break, January 7th to be the day to do this. We plan to talk to some teachers tomorrow to find out who would like help cleaning their classrooms. I will update on a later date to state who takes us up on this offer.

Helper!!

On Tuesday of last week, November 2, I helped Jenny out with a project by cleaning parts of the school. I, along with AJ, wiped down all of Mr. Wards desks and chairs. I also help in Mr. Savishinsky's room by clipping up the computer wires so that kids can't pull them down with their feet.
